AirPods Pro has reached consumers and Apple stores today with noise reduction, transparency mode and more. Tim Cook said today about Apple’s earnings forecast that sees AirPods Pro as an AirPods supplement and not as a replacement for AirPods.
Apple’s portable devices, home and accessories category generated $ 6.5 billion in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2019, including AirPods, Beats and Apple Watch. Regarding the AirPods, Cook said they continue to set “new highs.”
“The AirPods constantly reach new highs. And I suppose this will also be transferred to this quarter. And we are really proud to bring another product to the market for those who want a noise suppression when the AirPod Pro is sold today.”
AirPods Pro did not launch in time to be included in Apple’s fourth quarter 2019 earnings report. However, Tim Cook expects existing AirPods owners to be the first to buy the new version
“We look forward to customers with the new AirPod Pro. But I suppose, especially at the beginning, they will be people who have AirPods today and would like to have a pair for the times when they need noise cancellation.”
Cook’s belief that Apple customers probably own AirPods and AirPods Pro is interesting. While they provide several features, there is still some overlap in terms of general functionality.
